Newborn Checkups
During the newborn checkups, we monitor weight gain, feeding (breastfeeding or bottle), bilirubin levels (jaundice screening), vital signs, reflexes, and physical examination of heart, lungs, abdomen, hips, and neurological function. We also assess the umbilical cord site, skin, and general behavior.
Newborn visits typically occur soon after hospital discharge (e.g. within the first week), then again at 1 month, 2 months, and follow the immunization schedule thereafter. These early visits help us catch feeding difficulties, growth issues, dehydration, or developmental red flags early.
We also counsel new parents on safe sleep practices, newborn feeding and weight expectations, bathing, cord care, circumcision (if applicable), and recognizing signs of illness. We can guide you through normal infant behavior (sleep, crying patterns) and when to call the office.
In the Toledo and Oregon, Ohio area, we’re committed to building trust with new families. We coordinate care with hospital discharge notes, newborn screening labs, and pediatric specialists if needed. Our team is here to answer all your questions.
