Asthma Care

Asthma is one of the most common chronic conditions in children, and effective management helps minimize symptoms, avoid exacerbations, and allow children to lead active lives. Maumee Bay Pediatrics offers comprehensive Asthma Care for children in the Toledo and Oregon, Ohio area.

We diagnose asthma by combining medical history, physical examination, and pulmonary function testing (spirometry) when age-appropriate. We assess symptom patterns, triggers, allergy history, and environmental exposures in your home or school.

Once diagnosed, we develop a personalized asthma action plan with you and your child. This includes rescue (“quick-relief”) and controller medications, instructions on inhaler technique, usage of spacers or nebulizers, and guidance on recognizing signs of worsening asthma.

We also counsel on environmental control measures: reducing allergens, avoiding tobacco smoke, managing pets, mold, pollen, indoor air quality, and seasonal triggers. As part of our local knowledge, we factor in Toledo’s climate, pollen seasons, and air quality advisories in adjusting care.

Regular follow-up visits allow us to monitor lung function, adjust therapy, check inhaler technique, and assess adherence. We coordinate with schools in Oregon/Toledo to ensure your child’s action plan is known by school nurses or staff.

During asthma exacerbations, we provide prompt care (either in urgent settings or outpatient) and adjust preventive plans accordingly. If needed, we refer to pediatric pulmonologists. Our goal is to help your child in the Oregon/Toledo region breathe easier, stay active, and minimize disruptions from asthma.
